Session Description: Increasing urbanization trends are likely to continue, thus urban land area will also increase. Humans have intimate connections with soils in urban environments. Urban soils have direct impact on human, plant, and animal health, and influence water and air quality in cities. Consequently, interest in urban soils is growing, and our understanding of the genesis, morphology, classification, and interpretations of these soils. This symposium will summarize the current state of urban soil pedology with a brief introduction, followed by presentations on genesis, morphology, classification, and urban soil interpretations, and conclude with a facilitated discussion on future of urban soil pedology.
