Session Description: The interest and use of biochar for agricultural and environmental applications continue to grow; however, the potential benefits from biochar use are inconsistent and even can be negative. This session will explore the potential for increased efficacy of biochar soil amendments through targeted chemical or physical alteration, in addition to standard thermal treatment of biomass. There is a growing body of research to suggest that alterations of biochar physical and chemical properties can provide novel materials for increased efficacy of targeted applications.
