Keywords: C dynamics in soils, abiotic and biotic interaction effects on SOC , soil organic carbon and soil-atmosphere continuum

Session Description: Soil OC (de)stabilization results from a complex interplay between chemical, physical, and biological processes. This session will explore emerging knowledge on how biological, chemical and physical processes interact to both stabilize and destabilize SOC across scales; from molecules to mountains, and soil aggregates to the atmosphere. Invited speakers will explore the relationships between biotic and abiotic mechanisms at multiple scales that destabilize protected C in soils. We hope to foster collaborations across latitudes with invited speakers from the SSSA, Canadian Society of Soil Science and the Sociedad Mexicana de la Ciencia del Suelo, and bridge carbon science across scales.
