Format: Oral Topical Session
Keywords: Cover crop, N leaching, N2O emission and crop residue management

Session Description: Nitrogen is a major limiting nutrient in crop production in many cropping systems. As a result, substantial amounts of N fertilizer are applied to sustain and/or increase yields. Consequently, this has major environmental implications, such as N leaching into groundwater and N2O emission. This session will address agricultural management options, such as rates and types of N fertilization, cover cropping, crop rotation, crop residue management, fallow management, tillage, etc. that increase N-use efficiency, reduce N losses via leaching or emission, and sustain crop yields and quality.
