Session Description: The virtual water footprint of agriculture on a combination of green (precipitation and soil moisture) and blue (surface and groundwater) water. With a growing demand, green water holds the key to future water and food security. The flux of green water is interlinked to food-energy-water (FEW) nexus, and controlled by internal variables (soil, geology, topography) and external factors (climate, land use, agricultural practices). Of these, land management can be manipulated and thus is at the heart of 21st century FEW nexus. This session will highlight sustainable management of green water in the face of socio-economic and environmental change.
