Session Description: On onsite wastewater septic systems are an integral part of the water infrastructure in North America. They rely on soil processes to lower wastewater contaminant levels, helping to protect public health and ecosystem functions. An improved understanding of the processes involved in treatment by soil at the system level, and of the impact of these systems on ground and surface water at the landscape level is essential to better management and integration of septic systems into existing water infrastructure.
