Session Description: As fire regimes shift as a consequence of climate change and management practices, understanding the mechanisms that govern the response and recovery of soils to fire is increasingly relevant. Such mechanisms include ecological, biogeochemical, physical and watershed processes that operate across broad spatial and temporal scales. Soil biological communities play a central role in understanding these mechanisms and consequences for ecosystem functioning. Integrating soil microbial and faunal communities with the physical, chemical, and biological processes they mediate will lead us to a better understanding of how the soil environment will change under novel fire regimes.
