Session Description: Major biogeochemical and physical processes in the soil system are intimately linked. Physical perturbations to the soil system due to natural and anthropogenic agents (e.g., fire, drought, tillage, and land use change) lead to interactive responses of biogeochemical and hydrologic dynamics. Improved understanding of the major biotic and abiotic drivers that control these coupled biogeochemical and physical responses of soil is essential for our ability to predict soil conditions under a changing climate as well as the ability of soils to deliver key ecosystem services including carbon sequestration, nutrient cycling, food production and sustaining biodiversity.
