Session Description: Soil biodiversity is central to numerous ecosystem services including food production, water cycling, climate regulation, and supporting wildlife. This symposium brings together worldwide expertise to share advances in global soil biodiversity research and provide a forum for identification of knowledge gaps. Ways knowledge can be integrated into policy and land-management decisions will be discussed, with emerging interest from science-policy groups like IPBES, UN FAO and UN CBD to recognize soil biodiversity contribution. This event will enable interdisciplinary partnerships to promote creative and innovative thinking to address the complex soil biological function and facilitate a global assessment process for belowground diversity.
