Session Description: Phosphorus models exist that work across philosophical, spatial and temporal scales to predict phosphorus flows through agricultural, environmental, and human systems. They find their basis in fundamental chemical and biological process, but operate at the scale required by target audiences. Researchers, policy makers, and field practitioners use models to understand and inform decision making regarding global phosphorus flows between systems, movement of phosphorus to surface water, ranging from field to watershed scales, and even crop phosphorus requirements. This symposium will explore phosphorus modeling and the potential for improvement by building synergy between scientists operating at these disparate scales.
