Session Description: With increasing water shortages and competition among users, irrigated agriculture will require improvements in water productivity and, where possible, greater reliance on green water. Innovative production practices and rotations, alternative crops, and new technologies are required, across time and space scales, to optimize water productivity. Improved modelling approaches and a better understanding of crop response to water stress are necessary to assess irrigation strategies, production practices, and forecast crop water requirements and yield outcomes from water management decisions in real time. The organizers welcome contributions that feature experimental, modeling, and sensor applications aimed at optimizing water productivity.
