Session Description: Sustained semi-arid dryland agriculture requires an understanding of long-term management effects on soil properties. Climatic and edaphic factors often relegate detection of soil changes to a decadal timescale, underscoring the importance of long-term research sites and associated soil archives for understanding soil condition trends. An analysis of properties in archived and contemporary soil samples from a location with documented cropping history and modern soil mapping information may permit correlation of management to soil properties, erosion, and productivity. We invite presentations characterizing soil chemical or physical conditions resulting from historic or on-going degradation / remediation under often extreme dryland production conditions.
