Session Description: In a recent paper (Science 2019 364:1237), a Global Surveillance System (GSS) was proposed to provide advance awareness of pests and diseases. It would inform food security assessments and enable more coordinated and effective intervention. But just linking existing networks together is not enough. The GSS also needs deliberate coordination of people, from pathologists to breeders and CCAs. This session’s pre-recorded presentations discuss the implementation of the GSS and what's at stake for plant breeders. Additionally, the Q&A for this panel will feature two live, 5-7 minute reviews covering the GSS and how it’s relevant to academic and commercial breeding.
