Session Description: Regional accumulations of manure nutrients reflect specialization of livestock and crop systems that are central to profitable, productive and safe food supply. The “manureshed” vision prioritizes the sustainable reuse and recycling of manure resources by cropping and grazing systems. This symposium investigates the benefits, barriers and controversies of implementing manuresheds in modern agriculture, from analyses of regional budgets, to challenges in substituting manure nutrients for commercial fertilizers.
