Session Description: Both naturally-occurring and human-derived contamination of groundwater frequently occurs in multicomponent systems. Fundamental biogeochemical processes that dictate the speciation, solubility, mobility, and bioavailability of contaminants have contrasting impacts on elements. For example, conditions that favor sequestration of one element may promote solubilization of another, making management of these systems difficult. We invite presentations that seek to understand the biogeochemical conditions and process that drive the behavior of redox-active metals and metalloids (including Cr, As, U, V, Se, and Mn) in soils, aquifers, and surface waters. We also welcome presentations that explore remediation and mitigation strategies for these complicated, multicomponent systems.
