Session Description: Evapotranspiration (ET) is a complex biophysical process that has required consolidation and standardization of concepts, so scientists can be consistent in their communication of the subject. Although many premiere reference documents are available on the subject, there remains inconsistency in nomenclature and application of ET processes in crop models, particularly regarding reference ET which is often mistaken as potential ET. This symposium covers topics of ET from original theory and the need and purpose of standardization, applied works such as lysimetery, and modeling applications, all of which evaluate the process through the lens of standardized methods.
