Session Description: Over the decades of soil-related data documented by the research and user community, a number of important mechanistic or mathematically explicit relationships have been developed for a variety of soil interactions. However, articulating the "instinctual" patterns and latent trends in soil data that existed in the minds of experimentalists remained largely out of reach. Since the advent of machine learning approaches, new relationships have come to light capturing the inherent complexity of highly covariate, natural soil systems, and the various processes mediated within these matrices. This session focuses on applications of machine learning/artificial intelligence-based approaches in descriptions of soil behavior.
