Session Description: Evapotranspiration (ET), the transfer of water from land and plants to the atmosphere, is an important component for the hydrological cycle and crop production. From leaf to regional scales, crop ET estimates provide critical information for research, extension, and farming. Common measurements and models include lysimeters, water balance, standardized calculation methods (e.g. ASCE reference ET and FAO-56), meteorological gradient methods, sap flow and soil moisture sensing, and eddy covariance. This session will focus not only on advances in ET measurements, but also advances in areas of soil water and crop modeling, satellite-based modeling, land surface interaction, and decision support systems.
