Session Description: Black soil (Mollisol) is among most productive soils for agriculture and is important to healthy ecosystems and climate resilience. It is mainly distributed between the 30th and 60th parallels of the North Hemisphere, where agriculture, commerce and trade are intense. These regions are facing many threats from land degradation such as compaction, erosion and loss of organic matter, nutrients and productivity. Conservation and sustainable use of black soil resources needs holistic approaches integrating science, management, technology, economics, and policy. This session will bring diverse disciplines together to develop convergent understanding and solutions on maintaining healthy and productive black soils.
