Development of Edamame Production Recommendations for Arkansas.

In 2012, commercial edamame [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] production was introduced into Arkansas.  Even though edamame is the same species as the traditional grain soybean commonly grown in Arkansas, research to establish agronomic and pest related production recommendations was needed.  Through funding from the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board, The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture has conducted this research to provide these recommendations to edamame producers.  Many of the same agronomic recommendations used for traditional soybean production can be used for edamame production.  However, recommendations for seeding rates, weed control and insect control have been modified from traditional soybean production.  Specific recommendations related to seeding rates, soil fertility, weed control, and insect control will be discussed in more detail.  Through producer meetings, fact sheets, and other educational outlet, these production recommendations have been presented to edamame producers.
