The concept of “why soils matter” is not foreign in agronomy and many aspects of environmental science, but to many in the professional community, why soils matter is becoming more important in engineering applications, regulations, and in day-to-day living.  This presentation reflects the experience of a soil scientist’s experience in becoming part of the professional “fabric” of planning, design, and decisions that affect communities and environments, and how education in support of other professionals remains a vital need not only for soil scientists, but other professions as well.
