Abstract:
SSA abstract Within the world of soil science the importance of soil to the future of life on earth is accepted and the threats to this future are known. But the general public still has little-to-no idea of either. In this session, award-winning writer Paul Bogard (author of The End of Night) discusses the way the written word might help share with the public the vital nature of soil. Can narrative mix with scientific research to create stories that have the possibility to change the world? For BogardÕs new book, The Ground Around Us (to be published worldwide in 2017 by Little, Brown) he traveled across North America, Europe, and elsewhere to find the stories that might inspire a wider audience to become aware of the ground at our feet.
