Abstract:
Effective use of irrigation water in semi-arid agricultural regions is increasingly critical due to groundwater decline, growing competition for a limited water supply, and increasing frequency of drought. Innovative cropping systems that increase resiliency to drought are a critical need. Drought adaptation requires a synergistic combination of soil, crop, and water management practices. To help guide drought adaptation decisions, farmer-friendly decision support tools are being developed to empower producers to plan and evaluate water conserving practices using site and management specific approaches while considering the effects of drought and climate change. The tools will be available on eRAMS and COMET-Farm online decision support platforms. This presentation will give an overview the potential use of these decision support tools in drought adaptation.
