Abstract:
NC has had a professional licensing program for soil scientists since 1996.  In the last 2 years it has faced unprecedented attacks from the state legislature as well as the engineering profession.  The number of licensees has stabilized after a sharp decline following the Great Recession.  Today the program is financially stable, but its future is unclear, and keeping the program viable will depend on active participation of members as well as the board to vigorously respond to challenges to its existence.  The strategies NC members have used to preserve the licensing program will be discussed to highlight both our successes and failures
