  • Abstract:
The University of Tennessee at Martin Agronomy chapter had 16 members that traveled to the Discovery Park of America to be advocates for World Soils Day as well as Earth Day. During our time at Discovery Park of America we set up various activities representing soils, plants, and the environment. Our activities were representations to help educate the community about the importance of soil, plants, crops, and how they contribute to our everyday life.  On December 5, 2015, we celebrated World Soil Day. The activities included pH tests, soil textures, and infiltration rates.  On April 23, 2016, we celebrated Earth Day. The activities that were presented were seed germination, soil painting, soil textures, and environmental trivia. We worked alongside local conservationists from USDA-NRCS who brought along a rain simulator. At each station, we explained in further details how each activity can affect our lives in a negative and positive way. Each year the University of Tennessee at Martin Agronomy chapter looks forward to having the opportunity to advocate for a cause that we are passionate about.
