ABSTRACT WITHDRAWN

Abstract:
Soils have different levels of carbon content or organic matter based on where they are located and how they are formed. This study looks to see if there is a difference in the absorption of estradiol to soil particulate based on carbon content and if the soil carbon has any effect in filtering of hormonal runoff. Carbon partitioning coefficients (Koc values) were determined for 17β-Estradiol in the soil samples collected and were characterized using High Pressure Liquid Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectroscopy. Analysis of the data uses a Chi square test to determine if there is a difference between similar soils. Additionally, locations of the samples taken were used to determine a possible buffer recommendation along riparian areas.
