Abstract:
The presentation will address what carbon markets need most from agricultural scientists, focusing on the demand for data and evidence to guide policy, investment, corporate and national commitments. The agreements reached in Paris at the international climate negotiations in December 2015 have led national and subnational governments as well as private companies along the agricultural value chain to formulate plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, they must adapt to changes in climate and increase food production. The presentation will set out a framework for thinking about investment criteria, what needs to be monitored to demonstrate sustainability, and the role of methodologies and measurement in making markets work.
