Abstract:

In December 2015, world countries and businesses gathered in Paris, France for 21st annual Convening of the Parties or COP21.  Led by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the global intervention had a simple goal - to find the best way to keep the world from getting hotter.  More specifically, 2 degrees Celsius hotter.  Monsanto and Pepsi co-chaired the Agricultural Pillar for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development representing 1000+ businesses from around the globe.  Why did Agriculture take a front row seat to the climate change discussion?  Agriculture is uniquely positioned to be part of the solution.  To demonstrate ag's potential, Monsanto committed to be Carbon Neutral on our operational footprint by YR2021.  This session will illustrate the business strategy of combining data science and farming practices together with the ever advancing research by passionate soil scientists around the world and the role of soil carbon plays to maintain and improve sustainable food supply.   If successful, Agriculture will be part of the solution to help keep the world from getting a little bit hotter.
