Abstract:
Coastal marshes are sensitive to sea level change because of their characteristic gentle slopes. Here, I report the mechanism of tidal salt marsh formation in response to present-day sea-level rise in the Gulf coast of Florida and how they record quantitatively the subtle sea level change, dynamics of soil organic formation and progressive development of salt marshes in the last 100-150 y.
