  • Abstract:
    Boron (B) is an essential micronutrient for plants and is responsible glucose transportation, cell wall synthesis, lignification, cell wall structure, carbohydrate metabolism, RNA metabolism, etc. among other functions. A replicated greenhouse study was conducted to determine the uptake of B on tomato production in sandy soils of Florida. Fruit yields, tissue nutrient levels and plant growth parameters were measured in plants that received granular and foliar applications of B, straight and in combinations, to achieve 1, 2, 3 and 4 mg kg-1 of B and compared to one another against a control. Data from the summer tomato season are presented here showing B requirement of tomatoes grown on sandy soils.
