Abstract:
Smartfield Inc., based in Lubbock, Texas, is a data technology company with the ability to apply science to the remote monitoring of plant health, trigger intervention actions and measure the efficacy of external treatment regimes. The foundation of the science is centered on Optimum Plant Canopy Temperature (“OPCT”). All plants, varieties and hybrids, have a temperature which will produce maximum yields. Consequently, when plant temperature exceeds the OPCT, yield decreases. The Smartfield™ Sentinel System is a proprietary tool being launched in 2017 and equipped with an infrared camera that allows for precise plant canopy data capture across 160 acres. Smartfield™ Sentinel System uses algorithms that integrate these real-time environmental and physical measurements to produce millions of data points per season. Smartfield then turns these “Big Data” derive from micro data bases into meaningful and manageable information that results in an efficient crop management tool at the grower level.
