ABSTRACT WITHDRAWN

Abstract:
The open source community has developed hardware and software that are bringing new, low cost research tools to scientific inquiry. By combining a RasberryPi Zero processor with inexpensive near infrared cameras, we developed a system to monitor plant water status in cover crop experiments. Utilizing another open source tool, TensorFlow from Google, we are able to utilize machine learning to convert NIR imagery to a water availability index. In addition to research, these tools are making contributions to how farmers acquire information and make possible a new model of on-farm research.
