Managing Global Resources for a Secure Future

2017 Annual Meeting | Oct. 22-25 | Tampa, FL

164 Soil Enzymes: Methods of Analyses and Mechanisms Poster (includes student competition)

Poster Session
SSSA Division: Soil Chemistry
Cycling of key nutrients (C, N, P, S) in soils is strongly mediated by soil enzymes. The goal of this topical session is to showcase advances in how soil enzymes are measured, conceptualized, and incorporated to enhance our understanding of biogeochemical processes in soils. Emphasis will be given to novel methods of soil enzyme assays and interdisciplinary work drawing on approaches and perspectives from traditional biochemistry. This includes soil-specific artifacts in activity assays, distinguishing among multiple enzyme sources, characterizing enzyme kinetics, linking enzyme activity with biochemical and microbiological processes, and enzyme-specific isotope signatures in soils.
