203 Community Engagement and Public Participation in Environmental Research
Oral Session
SSSA Division: Soils and Environmental QualityAddressing environmental quality challenges requires creative collaborations across disciplines and stakeholder groups, particularly community members. When a mutual sense of interest, purpose and trust are shared, stakeholders can build partnerships and co-generate solutions. This session will highlight projects that are engaging communities and/or implementing a public participation in scientific research design to advance our understanding of environmental pollution and the fate and transport of contaminants in water, soil and food. Participants will be introduced to, and have the opportunity to share research collaborations and outcomes, community engagement practices, and methods for co-generating environmental quality and risk data.
