The inheritance of seed color and leaf hairiness in Brassica rapa was studied in F1, F2, F3, and backcross progenies from a brown seeded, hairiness line of B. rapa subsp. chinensis and yellow seeded, yellow sarson, non-hairiness cultivar of Brassica rapa var. trilocularis. The segregation of seed color and leaf hairiness, and a joint segregation of both traits were examined in the F2 and backcross populations. The seed color segregated into brown, yellow-brown and yellow that was under digenic control where the brown or yellow-brown color was dominant over yellow seed color. The leaf hairiness was found to be under monogenic control and leaf hairiness was dominant over non-hairiness leaf. The genes controlling the seed color and leaf hairiness are inherited independently. This research showed a contrast result with some of other researchers.
