The practice of soil science and management in urban areas involves not only working in a drastically-disturbed environment, but also addressing issues of soil mismanagement by groundskeepers taught to over apply fertilizers, pesticides, and water, resulting in poor soil conditions, ineffective plant growth, and need for soil and vegetation restoration.  Project experience in soil restoration and management for is presented to illustrate challenges, successes, and the need for better nutrient management strategies in urban environments.
