Recent research conducted by DuPont Pioneer and university scientists has demonstrated significant post-flowering nitrogen uptake by modern corn hybrids in high-yield environments. New insights into the timing of corn nitrogen uptake highlight the importance of having a season-long nitrogen perspective to ensure that crop nitrogen demand is met not only during rapid vegetative uptake, but also through the end of grain fill. Pioneer recently released Encirca Yield as a service to help growers more effectively manage critical crop production inputs, including nitrogen. Encirca Yield will combine next-generation crop and nitrogen models with high-resolution soil and weather data to dynamically forecast soil nitrogen status, giving growers the ability to monitor and manage nitrogen in real time throughout the growing season. This presentation will 1) provide an overview of the core enabling technologies underlying Pioneer’s nitrogen management service; 2) demonstrate how EncircaSM Yield can help farmers better manage season-long corn N demand; and 3) review Pioneer’s collaboration with eight land grant universities to conduct foundational agronomic research that supports the development of next-generation decision-support tools.
