Soils information is essential for hydrologic modeling, regardless of the scale of applicaiton or specific model being used.  Often the information needs of the hydrologist are a mystery to the soil scientist, while the interpretation of soil classifications are lost to the hydrologist.  Many modeling approaches do not require static classifications at all, and multiple case studies are used to show how soil functional data can be used to simulate the hydrology of poorly-drained soils from sub-field to large watershed scales.
