In this paper we introduce the SALUS rice model and the results of its application. The model was tested against measured data available from China and the Philippines on different cultivars, and nitrogen treatments across several years.  SALUS showed to closely predict the LAI, shoot biomass, yield and nitrogen uptake under different treatments, demonstrating its valuable use in selecting best management strategies to increase water and nitrogen use efficiency.
