The goal of sensing and mapping soil properties is to create an inference land use and management. To do this, pedotransfer functions are commonly used to link soil properties to soil behavior. Development of pedotransfer functions should be done with care and attention to both the physical and chemical signals of the soil that a sensor can detect as well as the physical function that results in the soil behavior of interest.
