Abstract:
Genome engineering encompasses several techniques and methodologies designed to target specific DNA modifications within a genome. "Gene editing" can be defined as a sub-class of such modifications, wherein a specific gene is targeted for knockout or in-frame mutagenesis. Most advances in this field have been made in model species, however there is tremendous interest in translating these technologies into crop species. This talk will provide a brief overview of the different methods used to edit plant genes and the potential trait outcomes that may be desired for crop species.
