Abstract:
Smartfield Inc., based in Lubbock, Texas, is a data technology company with the ability to apply science to the remote monitoring of plant health, trigger intervention actions and measure the efficacy of external treatment regimes. The foundation of the science is centered on Optimum Plant Canopy Temperature (“OPCT”). All plants, varieties and hybrids, have a temperature which will produce maximum yields. Consequently, when plant temperature exceeds the OPCT, yield decreases.  Smartfield™ FIT System, is a proprietary tool equipped with a daylight camera and high resolution infrared camera that allows for precise plant canopy data capture across hundreds of plots throughout the season in a continuous manner. Smartfield™ FIT System uses algorithms that integrate these real-time environmental and physical measurements to produce millions of data points per season. Smartfield then turns these “Big Data” into meaningful and manageable information that results in an easy-to-use high throughput phenotyping tool at the research level and/or an efficient crop management tool at the grower level.
