Soybean aphid, Aphis glycines, is the most significant insect pest of soybean in the north central U.S.  Management of this pest relies primarily on use of broad-spectrum insecticides.  This reliance on insecticides creates a situation ripe for development of insecticide resistance in this pest.  This presentation will provide an overview of soybean aphid management, insecticide modes of action, and insecticide resistance.  Data on localized failures of insecticides to control soybean aphid and laboratory bioassays confirming insecticide resistance will be shared. Strategies for insecticide resistance management for soybean aphid will be discussed in the broader context of integrated pest management for this pest.
