Abstract:
A review of the state-of-the-art in sensing soil properties and processes, including measurement of hydraulic, thermal and solute properties from a single sensor. Novel sensors measuring soil bulk density/porosity are just around the corner. We’ve learned some things about engineered media for containerized plants grown on the international space station. Numerically modeled simulations demonstrate the problems of sharply contrasting soil textures when engineered soils and urban soils are interfaced by transplanting.
