Abstract:

Learn how nutrient stabilizer product function in the low CEC, low organic matter soils of southeaster Illinois. Mike Wilson CCA 4RNMS, RMS will discuss his experiences with a variety of products and practices used in his geography to help reduce nitrogen and phosphorus loss into the environment from application in farm fields.

Wilson takes a look at all crop inputs to design nutrient management plans that improve both a Growers Return on Investment and Nutrient Loss efficiency. While looking for ways to use the 4R’s, soil type and other parameters to increase production while lowering applications of both N and P. This includes not only secondary and micro nutrients but also weed control, fungicide /insecticide use and seed treatments.

This approach is more of a total crop planning but can achieve great results in removing nutrients from the soil as grain instead of lost to the environment where they can eventually become a very serious issue in our streams and rivers.
