250 Symposium--Beyond Indicators and Tradeoffs: Translating Sustainable Intensification Assessments into Action
Oral Session
ASA Section: Environmental QualitySustainable intensification is a complex concept. It is usually measured by comparing and contrasting a farming system’s performance among a number of productivity, environmental, and social sustainability indicators. These sometimes contrasting indicators are frequently integrated using ’spider’ or ‘radar’ charts to illustrate the trade-offs in farming systems, though many argue that new methods are urgently needed to move beyond trade-offs to provide actionable recommendations to improve farming systems sustainability. This symposium will highlight the advantages and disadvantages in these approaches, while highlighting methods and approaches translate sustainable intensification assessments into action.
