Within land surface and hydrological models used for climate applications, horizontal and vertical soil heterogeneity can result in large sensitivities to ultimate model results used for hydrological and agricultural decisions. This presentation will focus on these model sensitivities both in a coupled land-atmosphere-hydrology model, WRF-Hydro, and an offline modeling system, the High Resolution Land Data Assimilation System. Uncertainties introduced into the modeling system due to lack of detailed soil property datasets can be beneficial to providing useful information to ensemble or probabilistic forecasts.
