260 Symposium--Environmental Fate and Resistance of Antibiotics, Herbicides and Pesticides - I
Oral Session
SSSA Division: Soils & Environmental QualityA broad range of biologically active organic compounds enter the soil environment intentionally or unintentionally via agricultural and urban activities. These include antibiotics, herbicides, pesticides and others. Many of these bioactive chemicals have been found to cause the development of resistance in bacteria, weeds and pests. This symposium will emphasize the linkages of antibiotics, herbicides and pesticides in soils and sediments with the development of resistance in the organisms, and the roles of soils and sediments as sources, sinks, and catalysts for sorption, transport and transformation of these bioactive compounds.
