Abstract:
The Purdue Agronomy Club focuses on giving back to the community. In order to give back we must first earn money to sponsor our club and community events.
Our main source of income to support the various projects is making plant mounts, seed samples, Munsell color charts, and soil texture kits. We sell these supplies to 4-H and FFA chapters, chemical companies, Master Gardeners, universities, and PK-12 schools for classroom demonstrations. We provide pH kits, dyes and clays to those who are interested in demonstrations used in educational classrooms or outreach workshops. We accomplish these big tasks by scheduling work sessions with our club members to make the products. Members work side-by-side with one another to accomplish a common goal and build friendships amongst themselves, which strengthens our club. Members are responsible for collecting the crops and weeds for the plant mounts, plant seeds, and soils for texture kits. We have business managers in charge of educating and mentoring members through the collecting, manufacturing, and selling processes.
Some of the proceeds from sales support our travel and meeting expenses, but were more proud of the use of our funds to give back to our department, university, and community. We purchase supplies to make blankets that are donated to childrens hospitals and have donated to the Childrens Miracle Network. We have provided meals to Food Finders food bank and purchased supplies used to help retired staff members in our indoor/outdoor spring cleaning endeavors. We have provided implements for Haiti relief, Heifer International, and other educational programs our members participate in while studying abroad in service-learning programs.
Our members are dedicated to serving not only our club and community by working hard, but we also want to reach out to serve our international community.
