Aggies for Agronomy.

Similar to many other states, Texas’ population is becoming increasingly urban with over 80% of residents living in urban or suburban areas. Due to these changing demographics, fewer and fewer people have a direct connection with agriculture. This disconnection can create misconceptions between the public and agricultural industry. To help increase agricultural awareness within the urban and suburban populations, The Texas A&M University Agronomy Society is hosting the 3^rd annual Aggie Corn Maze in the Fall of 2017. Club members envisioned, planned, organized, and carried out the events which included a pumpkin patch, agricultural equipment on display, and several hands-on demonstrations for visitors to learn about agronomy, crops, and soils. The maze was expanded in 2016 to include cotton, sorghum, and cowpeas. These updates have continued the maze’s tremendous success with over 4,000 attendees in the past two years. Newspapers and television stations have picked up on this success and been essential in expanding the impact the maze can bring to agricultural awareness in this area.
